QR check-in

QR check-in at the door, straight onto the register

With Amble, members check in by scanning a QR code on a tablet by the door with their phone and tapping their name, with no login. Their attendance goes straight onto the class register, and staff can also scan each member’s personal code at the desk.

At the door

Put any tablet by the door with the class’s check-in screen open. It shows a QR code that changes every 30 seconds, so a photo of it can’t be shared around. Members scan it with their phone camera and tap their name. Check-in opens 15 minutes before the class and closes 15 minutes after it ends.

At the desk

Every member has a personal QR code on their home screen, which can also be printed as a card. On the door screen, staff can scan it with a standard USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner. If the member has a class around now they are marked as attended; if not, Amble records a gym-floor visit.

The register

Staff can mark attended or no-show and add walk-ins. Turnout and no-shows then feed into the reports, class by class.

What it doesn’t do yet

  • Check-in needs an internet connection; it doesn’t work offline.
  • There’s no camera scanner inside the staff app. Use the door QR or a USB or Bluetooth scanner.

Questions studio owners ask

Do members need to log in to check in?

No. They scan the door QR code with their phone camera and tap their name.

What do I need at the door?

Any tablet that can open a web page. A USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner is optional, for scanning members’ personal codes at the desk.

Can someone check in from home?

The door code changes every 30 seconds and only works from 15 minutes before the class until 15 minutes after it, which makes that hard.

Does it record no-shows?

Yes. Staff mark no-shows on the register, and the reports show turnout for every class.

Does it work for open-gym visits?

Yes. A member checking in at the door with no class around then is recorded as a gym-floor visit.
